COS Pop up

Wednesday, 8 July 2015

COS recently teamed up with the Austrian based design studio chmara.rosinke, to create their Mobile Pop up Store. The intention behind it was to design a functional object with a strong personality and character but one that works cohesively with the design of the garments on display.

We were lucky enough to have it pop up in Brighton recently. The trolley was parked up on New Street for the weekend displaying some gorgeous and typically minimal pieces, with COS staff giving away a generous 20% off to passers by.

The COS trolley will be going to other locations this summer so watch out for it in a town near you!

Moxham SS14

Tuesday, 25 February 2014

I was invited by Madeline Moxham (owner and creative director of Moxham) to show off their new SS14 collection. With Moxham being one of my favourite brands I was overjoyed to be asked! Madeline wanted to use real people of varying ages to communicate that Moxham don't design for a specific age but for a certain mindset. Also featuring are the beautiful Desiree Laider- an art foundation student and all round creative, and Nicola Moxham- a retired social worker and artist (and Madeline's mum!). The shoot was great fun and such an honour to be involved.

The collection includes some of the Moxham classics but this time in silver, as well as new laser cut metal pieces which have a beautiful skeletal look to them. The collection launched online yesterday so head over to the site to check it out. Why not treat yourself while you're there?

Dr Martens launch party

Sunday, 16 June 2013

Last Wednesday I was invited to the opening of the new Dr Martens store on Brighton's Prince Albert Street. It was a great evening! Myself and Style Memos contributor Emily Sneyd entered to find a buzzing atmosphere with Tuaca & ginger beer, live DJ and shoe customisation for making your newly purchased DMs individual to you. I wasn't aware that they did clothing and accessories as well as shoes and there were plenty of both to peruse. I particularly liked the tie die shirt and leather sleeved bomber jacket, but settled in the end on a Dr Martens sturdy leather shopper that I haven't stopped using since! Oh, and the kids range - so cute!

After some fun in the store, we then headed across the road to The Mesmerist bar for more drinks, Boho Gelato chocolate & Liquorice ice cream and live music.

Don't forget to enter the Dr Martens street style competition for your chance to win £300 worth of DM products. More details here.

Brighton Fashion Week 2012

Friday, 15 June 2012

Jubilee-ing and school holidays have meant a very delayed Brighton Fashion Week post!

The week kicked off with Brighton Frocks, a show full of fun, glam fifties, latex and the general craziness that characterises this wonderful city. Day 2 was time for the much anticipated Zeitgeist show which I was personally most excited about attending. Lots of fresh talent, my favourites being the gorgeous simplistic cuts of Lesley de Freitas (image 1&2), the pattern and colour of Isolated Heros (image 3&4) and the fabulous prints on display at Kay Kwok (image 5).  The evening drew to a dramatic close with Jess Eaton's Road Kill Couture (image 6&7) which took everyone's breath away.

All Saints Church in Hove made for a fantastic venue, and the atmosphere on both evenings I attended was great, with none of that pretentious fashion vibe... Brighton Fashion Week is going from strength to strength and a real credit to the city. I'm looking forward to the next one already.

Amici di Peroni

Thursday, 6 October 2011

Last month I was invited to attend Amici di Peroni (Friends of Peroni) - an evening hosted by Gianluca Longo (style director of London's Evening Standard). I had a great time! It all took place in Jubilee Square, Brighton. On arrival we were served pints of Nastro Azzuro and socialised with the other invitees. The square had been transformed into a stylish dining area where we were seated and served great Italian food and of course more beer! Thanks Peroni!

In the Line of Beauty

Thursday, 11 November 2010

This month Somerset House will host an exhibition celebrating the work of illustrator Rene Gruau. Most famous for his groundbreaking artwork for Christian Dior, his style has influenced many fashion illustrators since. The exhibition will showcase original artwork by Gruau, as well as specially commissioned pieces by five UK based illustrators. One of which is Brighton's very own print designer and illustrator, Sarah Arnett!

The exhibition runs from 10th November 2010 - 9th January 2011. Not to be missed!

Turning Leaf/Basso & Brooke at Nola

Friday, 10 September 2010

Turning Leaf wine have recently collaborated with Basso & Brooke, and last night I was invited to witness the result during a very pleasant evening at Nola boutique. The Turning Leaf wine bottles on show were beautifully adorned with the bespoke Basso & Brooke artwork, as well as some gorgeous umbrellas also displaying the unmistakable style. I plan to get hold of one of those at some point...

As well as the lovely wine and nibbles, we were able to appreciate the AW10 collections now in at Nola. Get down there to see it all for yourselves!

Topshop Bandstand

Tuesday, 15 June 2010

So, last Friday I found out I'd won 2 tickets for the Topshop Bandstand at Regents Park! Yay! After much searching for someone brave to look after our 3 little boys- success! And myself and my wonderful husband set off on the train to London for an M&S picnic on our new Primark picnic blanket. We had a great time... Thanks Topshop!

There are more picnics taking place in Birmingham and Liverpool this weekend, so get tickets if you can!

A fashionable affair

The Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony Pre-Spring 2011 presentation was held in the sculpture garden of the Elizabeth Street Gallery in New York. Guests and models wearing the collection, shared afternoon tea and mingled. What a fashionable and civilised affair! I would've loved to have been there...
